What people search for when they want AI to run their company

People have started to ask whether AI agents can run a business on their own. Before we wrote the pages for our own site, we wanted to know how they ask, so we pulled US Google search data for the whole topic.

We started from 369 phrases and collected 5,240 related searches. We studied 252 of them closely and read the live Google results for 46. The numbers come from DataForSEO, which estimates monthly searches from Google Ads data, and run through August 2026.

The words for the idea barely register

"Company run by AI agents" gets too few searches to measure. "Zero-human company" gets about 50 a month, "AI run business" 70 and "autonomous AI company" 50. Even "autonomous company", the obvious name, gets 260, and most of those people want the office-furniture brand Autonomous.

So the people who want this don't search for the idea by name. They search for a product, a job title or a technology.

One brand made the category searchable

Polsia sells an AI that runs a company for you. Searches for its name stayed under 100 a month through 2025, reached 1,900 in February 2026 and 40,500 in August.

The searches around the name show what people want to know. In August, 2,400 people searched "is polsia legit", 880 "what is polsia", 480 "polsia pricing" and 260 "polsia review". These are people checking a product before they trust it with money. We wrote up what Polsia does and charges, and how the alternatives compare.

"AI employees" is how people name the job

"AI employees" is the biggest phrase that describes what these products do: 1,300 searches in August and 1,600 a month on average. It peaked at 2,900 a month in 2025 and has fallen since. Smaller phrases for the same idea, like "ai coworker" (260) and "ai staff" (210), are growing or flat. In DataForSEO's ranking data, the homepage of Sintra, which sells a set of ready-made AI assistants, ranks first for "AI employees".

"Agent orchestration" is a developer's word

"Agent orchestration" doubled in a year, to about 1,000 searches a month, after a peak of 1,900 in March 2026. "Multi-agent orchestration" grew the same way. The result pages we read for these terms were documentation and explainers from IBM, OpenAI, AWS, Databricks, Salesforce and Anthropic. The people searching are engineers choosing a framework to build with.

Some words already mean something else

To Google, "autonomous companies" means the makers of self-driving cars: Waymo, Nuro, Motional, Aurora and Wayve. "AI CEO" and "AI founder" return news about people who run AI companies, and "AI workforce" returns HR articles. Anyone writing about companies run by AI agents has to spell it out.

Google answers before anyone clicks

All 46 result pages we read opened with an AI Overview, the AI-written summary Google puts above the links. Reddit was in the top three results on 25 of them, and a forum or other user-written page was in the top three on 34. For an idea this new, much of the discussion happens in threads.

What we're doing with it

We named our own pages after what people search for, in their words: an office for your AI agents, designing an AI agent team and Polsia alternatives. We'll also spend more time where these searches end up, on Reddit and Hacker News.

How we did it

• The data is DataForSEO's, for Google in the US, in English, retrieved on 29 September 2026. Monthly figures run to August 2026.
• Search volumes are estimates, rounded into Google Ads' bands. Read them as sizes, not exact counts.
• We read each result page once, from a US desktop search on 29 September 2026. Results differ by person and by day.
• We checked every figure in this post against the raw responses.
